MICHAEL F. FARMER, ESQ

Mike is Counsel at the ALOIA LAW FIRM and focuses his practice on federal, state and municipal criminal defense, affirmative individual and business immigration law, civil litigation and fraud investigations.

Prior to joining the ALOIA LAW FIRM, Mike spent six years as a Trial Attorney with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Newark, New Jersey and Washington D.C.. During his time with ICE, Mike was a subject matter expert in national security, detainers, United States citizenship derivation and acquisition, and the Fourth Amendment. Mike has provided training on these subjects in various locations throughout the country.

Before joining ICE, Mike spent eight years as a New Jersey state prosecutor. He was a Deputy Attorney General with New Jersey’s Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor for a year, and spent seven years as an Essex County Assistant Prosecutor, specializing in financial crimes.

Mike was also an Officer in the Army Reserve Judge Advocate Generals Corps for eleven years, leaving the Army in 2021 at the rank of Major. In 2011, Mike deployed overseas in Support of Operation New Dawn, where he was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and a Combat Action Badge.

Mike has over 100 trials in Immigration Court, over 20 state and municipal (bench and jury) trials as a prosecutor, a federal jury trial as a defense attorney, and six trials in Iraq Criminal Court. Mike is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association and the New Jersey Association for Justice.

Mike received his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University, School of Law, a Bachelor of Arts from Arizona State University, a Graduate Certificate from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Arts from Montclair State University. He is admitted to the New Jersey and District of Columbia bars, as well as the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
